LVBA League Guidelines

1)      The purpose of the league is to have fun playing sim baseball. League members should be open minded to changes for the betterment of league play. We will always try to resolve situations by league vote. Please do not look for loopholes in the guidelines. If you find one and try to use it, you can be overruled. Hopefully the commissioner will just be a figurehead. Cheaters need not apply.

2)      The league consists of eight teams and two divisions.  Division champions shall play for the league championship in a best 4 out of 7 series. The team with the best record receives home field advantage. The format will be 1, 1, off, 2, 2, 2, off, 1, 1 (team with best record is team 1).  In the event of a tie for the division title, there will be a one game playoff. There will be 1 off day between the end of the season and the first game of the championship. Rosters are frozen for the championship series.

3)      Teams will have a 40 man roster and a 25 man active roster. Players will be present day, with stats based on the most recent season.

4)      Teams will play a 160 game season. Play is head to head (via netplay or in person) only. Teams will play a four game series weekly. The league statistician shall make the schedule. We will play an unbalanced schedule

5)      Draft order shall be in reverse order of won/lost record. In the event of a tie, a dice roll will determine position. Draft order shall remain constant throughout the draft.

6)      Teams will submit a complete drop list one week before the free agent draft. Rosters will then be frozen except for trades. Teams cannot drop and add players during the draft.

7)      Batters must have 480 plate appearances for unlimited usage. Pitchers must have 170 innings for unlimited usage. Players not meeting unlimited requirements can be used up to their real life usage. If a player plays for more than one DMB team, their combined DMB usage counts.

8)      To be eligible for unlimited use at a fielding position, a player must have played  30 games at that position. Players not meeting that requirement can be used at their actual games played at that position. When a player reaches their limit the league statistician will remove the fielding rating for that position. Teams are still free to use a player unrated at a position. Refer to the DMB help file for more information on this subject.

9)      Roster moves: Teams are allowed 12 roster moves for pitchers per season. Teams are allowed 18 roster moves for batters per season. If a pitcher is promoted and a position player is farmed, it is a pitching move and visa versa. This does not include disabled list moves or trade adjustments. Those are “free moves”. Only disabled list moves are permitted during a series. All other roster moves must be made in between series.

10)  If a team cannot play its series, they can designate another manager to play for them. If a team cannot play for two consecutive weeks it must designate another manager to play for them. In the event a team fails to do so, the figurehead….we mean commissioner will designate a manager to play for them.

11)  Trading is permitted. Teams may trade and move players from the end of our championship series till the start of a teams 109th game. From the 109th  game till the end of the championship series, teams may trade but no player movement can take place till the end of the championship series. Teams may trade draft picks.

12)  Teams are permitted to change cities but can only change ballpark dimensions and factors once every 3 years. This will be waived for new managers. New managers can play one year in their inherited parks before changing park dimensions. All ballparks must be approved by a consensus of managers (this is known as the Munchkin rider).

13)   To be eligible for the free agent draft, a pitcher must have at least 15 current season innings and batter must have at least 30 current season plate appearances. If a player is drafted who does not meet these requirements, they will be put back into the free agent pool without compensation to the team that drafted them.

14)   Teams must have available players for the season. If a team cannot field enough players, they must choose a player from the free agent pool to be assigned to their team with no end of season retention. Offending team will also forfeit a 3rd round draft pick in the upcoming draft. Penalty for multiple offenses will be decided by the commissioner.

15)   Post-Season eligibility: Position players with 300 plate appearances are eligible for unlimited play. Position players with less than 300 plate appearances can be used for 10% of their plate. Starting pitchers can make 10% of their starts. Relievers can be used for 10% of their batters faced. All numbers are rounded using standard mathematical practice. Up to .4 is rounded down and .5 is rounded up.
